Steven takes a keen interest in music education, and his daily work with the choristers of Peterborough Cathedral is the centre point of his professional life. He has been a member of the Oxford University Faculty of Music, teaches a number of Oxford Organ Scholars, and has given undergraduate tutorials in keyboard skills and techniques of composition. He has twice held Stipendiary Lecturerships in Music at New College Oxford.
Steven established a new Organ Scholarship at St Marylebone Parish Church in 2008, and two scholarships on the RSCM Bath course, which he has accompanied for a number of years. He has also acted as an examiner (at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels) for the RSCM.
Steven was responsible for setting up New College's Choral Outreach programme, where he visited three Oxford Primary Schools on a weekly basis, aiming to encourage singing and support performance opportunities for children in these schools. He also coordinated New College's sixth-form visiting singer scheme.
For four years, Steven was Organ teacher in the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music, and he has also held posts at King's College School, Wimbledon, and at The London Oratory School.
