Steven Grahl - Organist, Conductor, Accompanist

In 2012, Steven Grahl plays keyboard concertos by Bach and Handel in Oxford’s Sheldonian Theatre and the St Davids Festival. He gives solo concerts at Bath Abbey, Magdalen College, Oxford and Derby Cathedral. His playing will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, webcast from New College Oxford; his recording of David Adkins’ A Book of Apostles will be released by Les éditions Delatour. He directs the Guildford Chamber Choir in works by Brahms, Mendelssohn and Rheinberger, in the music of James MacMillan and Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla, and in Will Todd’s Mass in Blue. Educational activities include choral work in Oxford Primary Schools, examining for the RSCM and undergraduate teaching at Oxford University.

As an accompanist, he appears at New and Somerville Colleges in Oxford, and with numerous choirs, including Schola Cantorum of Oxford and Cantate Youth Choir in the Thaxted Festival.

Recent arrangements are featured on the CD Illumina from New College, Oxford, and in the semi-finals of the BBC Songs of Praise competition. His setting of Elizabeth Barrett-Browning’s How do I love thee will be premiered in May by the Choir of St Marylebone Parish Church.

Steven is Organist and Director of Music at St Marylebone Parish Church, London, and Assistant Organist at New College, Oxford. He is also Principal Conductor of the Guildford Chamber Choir, and is active as a concert organist, accompanist and teacher.
